:: How to choose your apartment rentals 9th arrondissement Paris, France? ::
The “IXe arrondissement” (9th district in English) is located on the Right Bank of Paris. Situated at a juncture between the beauty and grandeur of the 8th, and the bohemian 18th (which contains the Montmartre), and adjacent to the 2nd district among others, the 9th occupies an exciting portion of central Paris.
The diversity of the 9th owes much to its location in central Paris. The southern portion is contains many sights and attractions for tourists, and to the northwest, located just below the artistic Montmartre, is the fading red light district of Pigalle and the more popular Clichy. The Clichy contains the famous Moulin Rouge and has an exciting and active nightlife.
In contrast, the district is also home the old Opéra Garnier (replaced in the late ‘80s by the new Bastille opera house) and some of Paris’ most upscale shopping. Areas such as the 2nd and the 8th (home to the Champs Elysees and the Arc of Triumph) are also closeby.
Depending greatly on which part of the 9th your apartment rentals in Paris is located, you may find that portions of this district are not perfectly suited to family residence. It really depends on which part of the 9th you choose, as much of this district is well suited for family living, as well. Either way, those of a more bohemian disposition will find this vibrant part of central Paris a fun place to stay.
Some “must see” attractions here include the Opéra Garnier, the setting for The Phantom of the Opera. With a stunningly lavish interior that is as opulent as the outside, the Opéra Garnier made the 9th district the beautiful focal point of Second Empire grandeur. Pavlova famously danced Swan Lake here, and a modern addition includes painted ceilings by Marc Chagall. Since the opening of the new Opera Bastille in the twelfth distroct, the Palais Garnier has been reserved mostly for ballet and other dance performances.
For shopping, the Grands Boulevards provide some exciting choices. In addition to Printemps, the Galeries Lafayette are located on boulevard Haussmann near the Opera. The gourmet food section is no less than a Paris institution. Occupying an entire level, it features several competing vendors of gourmet baguettes, a few hundred types of cheese and an entire aisle devoted to mustard, among many other delicious items.
For cultural fun, just paces from many available and beautiful long term apartment rentals in Paris is the Musée Gustave Moreau, former home of the Symbolist painter. Much like the Rodin museum, the house has now become a museum to this artist’s life and work.
Your Paris rentals 9th district brings you into a world that has been celebrated throughout the ages in literature and in music. Some of the famous music halls that brought a sense of fun to Paris nightlife were – and still are – located here. The vibrant, bistro-filled Boulevard des Italiens is home to the Café de la Paix, opened in 1856 and once the meeting place of the Romantic poets (including Théophile Gautier and Alfred de Musset). Later, Charles de Gaulle, Marlene Dietrich, and a tremendous influx of expatriates began to arrive here from around the world. The heroine of Alexandre Dumas’s Lady of the Camelias Marguerite Gautier (famously portrayed by Greta Garbo' in the film Camille), died at 17 blvd de la Madeleine. Not far away is the Montmartre, whose history is unrivaled in the annals of modern art.
Although the Café La Nouvelle Athènes at Place Pigalle, where Degas, Pissarro, and Manet used to meet, is long gone, many other major landmarks remain.
The cabaret scene is still as lively as ever. One can still see a show at the Folies Bergère, where cancan dancers have been putting on a spectacular performance since 1868. French entertainers such as Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier once graced the stage here, as well as Josephine Baker, once called "the toast of Paris."
No matter which part of the 9th you choose for your corporate apartment in Paris, anyone seeking to be near Paris’ main attractions will find the 9th a great launching point for their Paris adventure.
