:: How to choose your apartment rentals 4th arrondissement Paris, France? ::
In addition to a wealth of cultural attractions for visitors, the 4th offers visitors a terrific blend of lively bars, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, beautiful squares and more in the narrow medieval streets of the fashionable Marais area.
A good part of the 4th consists of what was once medieval Paris, and you'll find a lot of architecture and styling from that period on both the Ile de la Cite and the Ile de St. Louis and in the narrow streets of the lower Marais.
At night the 4th has one of the most active bar scenes anywhere in the world, particularly in the lower Marais district. After all, packed into this small arrondissement there are a thousand restaurants to choose from, in almost every style and price range imaginable. Most of the more upscale bistros can be found around the Northwest corner of Place de Bastille (reservations may be required for some of the more formal establishments), but you will find no shortage of places to eat in this vicinity.
Overall, one of the charms of the fourth is that it is small enough to explore walking from your apartment rentals 4th arrondissement, which is certainly many visitors’ methods of choice. Next to the Bastille station, the RATP has vélos (bicycles) for rent, as well.
Popular tourist attractions in the 4th include some of Paris’ most famous sights, such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris’ city hall, and of course the Centre Pompidou.
The Gothic Notre Dame cathedral was built a 12th century design, even though it wasn't completed until the 14th. It is still a very impressive example of the style.
Those who love art find the Centre George Pompidou indispensable. But you don’t have to be an expert. The curators have assembled a helpful and entertaining introduction consisting of approachable works which entertain, delight and amuse. The building is also home to a fine rooftop restaurant. But the Pompidou contains more than its impressive collection of contemporary art. The Bibliothèque Publique d'Information library is also here, with one of the largest collections of books in the world, and free internet access available (though you may have to wait a bit). The Pompidou is also literally surrounded by some of the nicest sidewalk cafés in the city.
The Bastille is another famous attraction in the 4th, accessed from the Bastille metro station or from your long term apartment rentals in Paris. All that remains of the fortress whose front steps used to lead up from place de la Bastille are some foundation stones.
Be sure to tour St. Jacques, a gothic church tower located west of the Hôtel de Ville. It is the remnant of Eglise Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, the meeting place in Paris for Pilgrims heading to Santiago de Compestela in Spain.
The Hôtel de Ville is quite possibly one of the loveliest buildings in town. It is also Paris’ city hall. Across the street, the top floor of the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville department store features a beautiful view of the building and the Seine from the roof terrace.
To see where French novelist Victor Hugo (Les Miserables) lived, visit Hotel de Sully, now a small museum.
For world-class shopping, head from your Paris rentals 4th district to the rue des Francs-Bourgeois, which has become a shopping destination for clothes and accessories, with great sales in July and January.
The 4th is a very centrally located arrondissement, right between the Châtelet and Bastille areas, two of Paris' main transportation (metro, RER and bus) hubs. Located on the Right Bank, it is bordered to the west by the 1st arrondissement; to the north by the 3rd, to the east by the 11th and 12th, and to the south by the Seine and the 5th.
On the north side of the Ile de la Cité, the main island at the center of Paris you'll find a burgeoning daily flower market, also containing exotic tropical birds. The Île de la Cité has been inhabited since the 1st century BC, when it was occupied by the Parisii tribe of the Gauls.
Once an area for Royal residence (as the beautiful renaissance arcades of Place des Vosges testify), the Marais is now one of the most bustling areas of Paris. To the west is the cobblestoned Beaubourg
For a snack or a quick lunch from your apartment rentals in Paris, consider the kosher falafel stands along the Rue des Rosiers (near Place des Vosges). For dinner or a sit-down lunch there are many nice places, from trendy to traditional throughout the district.
