Tip: THE LANGUAGE
Paris can be a difficult, tricky place. There are many rules and customs; so many, in fact, it isn't really possible to learn them all overnight. You simply have to do your best. But the single most important thing you must do in Paris, to be perceived as a friendly force, is to attempt to speak French, regardless of your level of fluency. As a general rule, people in Paris will love you for trying to speak French, so if you're afraid of failing, don't be. Fail gloriously. The only mistake you can make is to fail to try. Remember to always say "bonjour" or "bonsoir" when you enter a restaurant or shop, and don't launch into English immediately after doing so. Beginning by saying "excusez-moi, mais je parle en peu français" (excuse me, I only speak a little French) will help you immeasurably. A great many French people speak a degree of English, and will do their best to meet you half way, if you make the honest effort to speak in French, first.
